Sony’s Upcoming Morbius – Linked With Spiderman?
Sony’s (In association with Marvel) upcoming Morbius film is set to hit the cinemas 31st July and looks something quite different from what we’re used to in a Marvel movie. It features a more dark nature something the theme of vampirism and maybe a hint of the horror genre in there.
Morbius’ story features Micheal who is a biochemist infected with a very rare blood disease. However, whilst trying to save himself with one of his experiments he instead injects a form of vampirism in him granting him supernatural powers. From what we’ve seen so far of the new Sony’s Marvel Cinematic Universe it seems to follow in the same direction as Venom as Morbius still has the dark and horror-like setting which is still interesting to see how it will play out when released but never the less it will still be a fantastic movie to experience for Sony bringing in Marvel’s characters to the modern-day era. For both companies, this is a fantastic move as some of these characters many Marvel fans may not have heard of before and so it will bring the old and new audiences together and with Sonys help they are able to take these movies to a whole new genre and cinematic feel intended for teenagers. To an extent, sometimes these movies don’t give you the original feel and experience you got when watching classic Marvel movies with your favourite superheroes which may influence some viewers.
However, something else which is very exciting and interesting to point out is that in my opinion, I believe that this movie is tied in with the Venom movies Sony has been making as well as Tom Holland’s Spiderman series. As we know, in Spiderman: Homecoming the Vulture is the main villain and at the end we see him heading into jail whilst talking to someone. Was he Morbius all along? But before we get our hopes up, there’s one more piece of information. It has been said that Sony is using Tobey Maguire’s spiderman instead of Tom Holland’s. Now, could this be because Sony is carving out its own Marvel universe or do they have something else planned? Because of the character Morbius’ history with Spiderman in the Marvel Comics series, it is probably most likely that we are going to see Spiderman and Morbius in a film together at some point meaning as Micheal Keaton is reprising his role as Adrian Toomes a.k.a. The Vulture from Tom Holland’s Spiderman: Homecoming.
Also, it would also be interesting to see if Sony integrated their Venom movies into Morbius as well at some point meaning as Spiderman, Morbius and Venom are all characters linked to Spiderman in the Marvel Comics at some point. For me, a really exciting movie would be Morbius facing off against Venom; Morbius V Venom? It has been rumoured that Tom Holland is in talks about Venom 2 after all.
